Sometimes a story needs a refined technique. Sometimes a new technique opens up new story possibilities. And sometimes, a technique and a story are born together.

Director Dan Woodliff had an idea for a story, but it needed a piece of equipment that didn’t exist. So he and his crew engineered an apparatus to enable two cameras to shoot from a single jib arm. The technique allowed him to create a poignant vignette that received a Vimeo staff pick and even an unexpected shout-out from rapper Nicki Minaj. Yeah, he screen-capped it.
